The Orange Bowl’s mission and vision is to promote and serve South Florida in order to inspire youth, engage the community and enhance the economy. The Orange Bowl Florida High School Football Showcase meets that mission and vision by providing an opportunity for young student-athletes to use their football and academic skills to attend college and ultimately earn a degree. This effectively has the profound effect of changing young peoples' lives.
The Orange Bowl Florida High School Football Showcase is a FREE one day event, in association with the National Football Foundation (NFF) and its local chapters, that will bring together Florida high school seniors and educational institutions in Division II, III, and NAIA programs from across the country. A series of tests and drills will be run that will best display each player's various talents at their respective positions. Following the showcase, players and universities will meet to discuss scholarship opportunities for the participating athletes.
The Showcase was held on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL. It featured athletes from all over South Florida and brought together outstanding educational institutions in Division II, III and NAIA programs from across the country. The Showcase was organized and managed by quality football coaches hand selected by the Orange Bowl. A series of tests and drills were ran that best displayed each player's various talents at their respective positions. Following the activities, players and universities met to discuss scholarship opportunities for the participating athletes. Admission was restricted to the athletes, participating coaches, visiting high school and college coaches, college administrators and the media.
The Orange Bowl Florida High School Football Showcase was the third Showcase being conducted nationally in association with the NFF, with the first two having taken place in Houston and Los Angeles.
HOW IT WORKS
All student-athletes must pre-register. The participant must be a graduating high school senior and who has not accepted a scholarship offer from a Division I football program. In addition, they must meet the following qualifications:
Have an SAT score of 820 (math and verbal only) or higher on the old format (SAT exams taken prior to March 2016) or an SAT score of 900 (math and verbal only) or higher on the new format (SAT exams taken after March 2016)
Have an ACT sum score of 68 or higher
All Division II, III, and NAIA athletic directors and head football coaches are invited to attend. There will be ample time for coaches to view the athletes in drills and to talk to them individually about their respective football programs. Staff from admissions and financial aid departments are encouraged to attend as well. No parent participation will be allowed at the Showcase.
